Project Title: Creating and Performing Recorder Music

Objectives:
• Students will be able to create their own 8-measure song using known notes and rhythms.
• Students will be able to read & play their created song on the recorder, using correct posture, breathing, and tone.
• Students will be able to critique other students work using musical language and a given rubric.
• Students will be able to connect their written song as well as other familiar recorder songs to their daily life.

Activity List:
• Click on the link for NoteFlight website (linked under materials).
o Click “Join NoteFlight”.
o Enter your email address and a password at the top of the screen.
o Click “New Score” at the top of the screen.
• Create an 8-measure song using notes and rhythms we learned in class. (Creating)
o Notes can include G, A, B, High C, and High D in the treble clef.
o Rhythms can include quarter notes, half notes, 8th notes, quarter rests, and half rests.
o Make sure you have 4/4 time signature at the beginning and that you have 4 beat per measure! NOT 4 notes!
o Do NOT write any notes in the bass clef! Use the top line (Treble Clef) only!
o Make sure to include a title and composer name (your name) at the top of your song. Make sure to look at the rubric to get the most points possible.
• Once you have created your song, practice playing it using your personal recorder.
o If you lost or broke your recorder, they can be purchased at Walmart, a Music Store, or online.
• Once you have practiced your song enough, click on the AudioTool website (linked under materials) to recorder your song. (Performing)
o Click the man symbol up at the top of the screen.
o Click “Sign Up, It’s Free” button
o Create a New Account at the bottom of the screen.
o At this point, you can watch tutorials if you’d like to learn how to better use the website.
o Next, click “Start Creating” button.
o Click the record button and play your created song with the recorder. Don't forget to look at the rubric to get the most points possible.
• Upload your recording directly to the HUB website under the RECORDING tab.
• Once you have uploaded your recording, you will critique 3 of your classmates.
• You will critique the three classmates who upload their recording after yours. If you are one of the last three to upload your video, you will critique the first three to upload their videos. Critiques will be sent to Ms. Ristow as an email ([email protected]). Use the rubric provided when critiquing the other students. Make sure you use musical language/terms used throughout the year when critiquing the recordings. (Responding)
• The last part of the project is to listen to 3 recorder songs on YouTube (videos linked above in materials). Talk about how those songs compare to the song you wrote. Talk about how those songs make you feel compared to the song you wrote. Talk about how all those songs, including yours, relate to music you listen to on a daily basis. How are they the same? How are they different? Which one do you like better and why? Make sure to use the provided rubric to earn the most possible points. Make sure to look at the rubric to get the most points possible.
